Rigby is a smart, playful and loving boy – he loves to play with his foster dog siblings (or at least to try to get them to play) and follows Mom and Dad around everywhere they go. 

He is about 90% housetrained and just like a toddler, he will attempt to play with anything he can grab with his mouth – so keeping him supervised and items put away that he should not have is important. We find having a big basket of toys for him to choose from and swapping the ‘no chew items’ for his toys is good positive training. 

Rigby is crated during the day for short times when we are running errands and he sleeps well in the crate at night (ok…he does protest a bit at night time but just for a few minutes then he goes to sleep quite as a mouse).

The Cocker Spaniel breed does require regular grooming (brushing and trims) and his ears need to be kept clean and dry to prevent ear infections.

Rigby, just like most Cocker Spaniels, is driven by two things: food and toys. As an intelligent breed, Cocker Spaniels tend to learn both good and bad habits quickly, so if the dog is not doing what you want him or her to do, you can be certain that the dog is getting rewarded for the unwanted behavior in some manner. Rigby will do best in a home that will work to ensure he has completed all his basic obedience training.
