Foster Application

Please read the following carefully. Submission of this Foster Application does not result automatically in approval.

The undersigned (hereinafter referred to as “the volunteer”) hereby agrees to volunteer his or her services to Texas Sporting Breed Rescue, Inc. (TSBR) – a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The volunteer acknowledges and understands the dogs involved in TSBR's program may be untrained, unhealthy and/or unfriendly, and TSBR makes no representations whatsoever regarding the animal’s temperament, health (including the absence of diseases transmissible to humans or to other animals), ability, attitude, past experiences or trainability.

  • Dogs may be fostered in private volunteer homes, but remain the property of TSBR until an adoption contract is executed by an individual approved to adopt by TSBR.
  • The volunteer assumes all risks relating to working with the TSBR Rescue animals.
  • The volunteer hereby releases TSBR, its officers, directors, and volunteers from any and all claims, actions, liabilities, damages, and costs of any kind arising out of volunteering for TSBR. If any member of the volunteer’s household or a visitor to the volunteer’s home or in the volunteer’s vehicle makes a claim, the volunteer will indemnify, defend, and hold TSBR and the TSBR officers, directors, and volunteers harmless from such claim.
  • The volunteer agrees he/she/they is/are over eighteen years old or have included the signature of a parent or legal guardian assenting to volunteering with TSBR.
  • The volunteer understands that if his/her/their volunteer application is accepted, he/she/they understand that he/she/they will be representing a non-profit organization when doing volunteer work for TSBR.
  • The volunteer agrees that while carrying out any volunteer work for TSBR, he/she/they shall not engage in activities that are prohibited to a nonprofit, tax exempt organization.
  • The volunteer shall not profit financially by any activities performed as a TSBR volunteer.
  • The volunteer agrees not to represent TSBR in any type of political activity such as political initiatives or endorsing or condemning candidates for office. The volunteer understands that he/she/they may be held personally liable for any direct consequences of such misrepresentation.
  • The volunteer hereby affirms that he/she/we are not currently under disciplinary action by the American Kennel Club, any national breed club, or any local kennel club, has/have not been convicted of any charges of cruelty, abuse, or neglect of animals, and am/are not engaged in large scale commercial breeding or sale of dogs.

Minimum standard of care for pets in the foster home:

  • Dogs are not kept outdoors unsupervised, or for extended periods of time (i.e. while away at work). Dogs may be confined to a room or safely crated indoors.
  • Securely fenced yard, or the means to safely provide adequate outdoor exercise.
  • Existing and recent pets must be spayed/neutered, on heartworm prevention with a negative heartworm test within prior 12 months, current (within 12 months minimum) on all recommended vaccinations (rabies, DHLPP, boradatella). Please specify if there is a medical reason any of these are not provided or current). IMPORTANT: If your veterinary reference(s) cannot verify spay/neuter, vaccination history, current heartworm status and the purchase of monthly heartworm prevention on current and/or previous pets, processing of your application will be held until you can provide this information. Exemptions to our spay/neuter policy are granted on a case by case basis for dogs upon veterinary recommendation to not spay/neuter or upon verification that the dog is actively participating in AKC/CKC sanction event or competition, or is part of an AKC sanctioned registered breeding program.

By submitting this form, I/We agree to abide by the policies and procedures, Articles of Incorporation and the Bylaws of TSBR.

Restraint Agreement

Texas Sporting Breed Rescue, Inc. (TSBR) feels it is important to briefly explain our restraint policy. Many sporting breeds were originally bred as hunting dogs, and many of them retain a strong instinct to air or ground scent. Their nose-activated instincts will easily lead them astray - too often into the path of an oncoming car or a wild animal that could be rabid or into totally unfamiliar territory where they could be lost or stolen - perhaps forever.

TSBR therefore requires that all of its dogs be under restraint at all times when outside. We recognize that not all dog owners are convinced of the need for total restraint. We also realize that this regulation may rule out some homes that would otherwise be wonderful. But we must be firm in our search for a safe environment for the sporting breeds we rescue. If you acknowledge and agree with the above, please indicate your agreement below.

Note:

The Restraint Agreement is required when executing an adoption contract with TSBR.
